"It was a very special race weekend in many ways. Firstly, for the first time this season we were not fast enough, compared to the best. I was one and a half second behind during practice - a catastrophy. There was nothing wrong  with the car or the set-up. It was just me who wasn't driving good enough. That hasn't happened many times in my career. Normally I'm very analytic and have a plan how to attack the track, but this time everything was empty. I could immediately see from my mechanics Olle and Andreas that they were curious about what was wrong when I was in P13." 

Despite this you managed to be up front already in the first heat race. How was that possible?  

I won my heat and was second overall. Probably I have never been that satisfied with second place. I started far out, got off to a really good start and went into the joker lap straight away. After that I was quite close to Heikkinen and Foust and as I knew they had been fast during practice I watched them and tried to do drive like they did." 

Is that really possible, copying your rivals during a race? 

"Maybe it is just as easy as that to drive a rallycross car, ha-ha..." 

Good results from the first day, but the weekend was supposed to take a new turn in the evening. 

"Zandra called and told me her waters had broken. I said 'Okey' and told her we were in the middle of a discussion about how to increase our pace so I just told her we could talk later. When I had hung up I told the others about broken waters and they, who understand more than I do, said: 'But that means the baby is due'. I called Zandra again and then she was on her way to the maternity hospital accompanied by her mother and brother." 

Did you ever consider breaking up from the race? 

"Yes, I was planning to take a flight straight away, but we didn't know exactly when the baby was coming or if I could get back to England in time. With hindsight, it wouldn't have been possible anyway. I didn't sleep well that night, got some text messages from my mother-in-law and was informed that it was closing up. At half past ten in the morning I got a message that he was about to arrive, but then I heard nothing more. That quarter of an hour felt like three days. Just before our warm-up I was told by my mother-in-law Christina, that I had become a father of a son and that everything was well with mother and child. I put down the phone, took my helmet and was fastest on the warm-up." 

That sounds like an amazing effort. 

"Focusing is my strongest quality. Right then I knew that I could do nothing about what was going on at home, so my focus was put on the race. I also decided to stay in our tent as much as possible to avoid congratulations distracting me." 

Second place in the semi-finals sent you to the final as number three. 

"My plan was to follow Petter closely and as Mattias went into the joker lap I didn't have to bother about him to start with. Petter was a bit quicker than me for the first two laps, but then I could match his pace quite good. When I went into the joker in my last lap Mattias advanced and I had a fight with Bakkerud for third place. It was really tough. I was on the curbs with my wheels, but he still tried to go on the inside. He tried to open a new door but I decided to close that one as well. " 

To be on the podium despite lack of pace and with childbirth at home must be considered as really good. 

"That's rallycross! During the earlier races we have slipped on banana skins having deserved more points. I told my mechanics to hang on and hope for coincidences to be in our favour this time, and that's exactly what happened. I'm really satsisfied having strengthened our second place in the championship. A lot of people are talking about me having to catch up with Petter but I can only concentrate on my own achievement and if I keep all the others behind, that's good." 

On Monday morning you were set for meeting your son and the mother of your baby. 

"I took my car from Landvetter to the maternity ward in Karlstad. It was really nice to see the the little 'racer' and to meet Zandra. The little one got to see his first F1 race when he was one and a half day old, ha-ha. By the way, he has heard a lot of engine sound already, having listened to all the on-board films I have watched in our bed." 

And now you are No1 for diapers changing? 

I did my first one this morning. Shit, that was well done by me. I have no problems with stuff like that. I can clean toilets without hesitating. And when you change diapers on your own kid, that's just natural." 

But you will only do that for a couple of days to start with, as you are on your way to Anderstorp and the Porsche Carrera Cup. 

"That's right. I haven't been able to focus on that yet, but I have to watch a couple of on-board films becuase this is a totally new circuit for me. For that reason it feels good to have a bit of advantage in the championship."
