Best opening day of the season at Lydden Hill
Volkswagen Team Sweden got a kick start the opening day of the fourth event this season at Lydden Hill in UK, positioned P2 and P6 in the Overall standings with 2 heats to go tomorrow.
Kristoffersson leading fellow Volkswagen drivers Topi Heikinen and Tanner Foust
Volkswagen Team Sweden are visiting the British track for the first time, and because of that had difficulties to find the right pace during the Free Practise session this morning. Already during the first Qualifying Heat, Johan Kristoffersson started to find his way around the fast and difficult track, ending as runner up behind reigning Champion Petter Solberg. Tord Linnerud was fighting to set 10:th fastest time and both Volkswagen Polo R WRX drivers qualified for the two last heats in Q2.
Tord Linnerud took the start and went direct in to the Jokerlap on his first lap. After his best performance so far, he managed to hold fellow Volkswagen driver PG Andersson behind to take a great P5 in Q2. Johan was as well first in the start and had a tough fight with Petter Solberg until the chequered flag, ending as Runner up in the Overall Standing. The two Polo R WRX drivers finished P2 and P6 in the overall results after Day 1, the best so far this season.
Johan was happy after Day 1:
- “It was a great recovery after struggling to get to learn the track during the Practise session. The feeling is amazing and I am getting more and more comfortable at the track. There is still some points where I could improve, but I save that for tomorrow”, says a happy Volkswagen driver.
